Margaret Mead

"...any plan that hands the City Council even more power to alter the zoning of a single piece of land for a developer friend is bad news for neighborhoods fighting congestion, displacement of residents

and destruction of neighborhood character."    CityWatchLA, May 2016

5327, 5333, 5335, 5339, 5341 Hermitage Ave. -

These are very special buildings built by the same family in the 1940's and added to in the 1960's. One of the 2 properties left actually having sufficient amount of open space, landscape and air between the 2 SFD's. The proposed project has been granted a density bonus and includes the neighborhoods first and only 4-story 43 unit apartment building with an unknown amount of parking spaces. This more than triples the blocks green house gas emissions robbing the existing character of the entire neighborhood & the block and eliminates existing rent-control.

The families who had been living there were served more than 8 eviction notices.

12300/12302 Weddington St. is in danger.

This SFD was built in the 1950's.   Vertical wood siding and brick. It has a detached building, which was used for more than 50 years as an office for the Doctor that lived there. The interior of the bathroom is in outstanding condition- all original tile and fixtures. This small oasis has a mature Carrotwood tree. There is also a lemon tree in the back which produces more lemons than you can imagine. What's so beautiful about this house is how tucked away and private it is.  It's like your own little private oasis.

Proposed to be demolished by URBAN-BLOX who has visions of eliminating Weddington Street entirely, to make way for more cement, more cars, no open space, no natural resources and no more rent-control.

The development company known as URBAN-BLOX has no building or experience under their belts and have become known for purchasing existing rent-control buildings, evicting occupants, demolishing the buildings and selling.

Raffi Shirinian, David Duel and Rebecca Duel are currently under investigation pending tax fraud, perjury and tangled up in various litigation issues.

These developers have been pushed out of the Silverlake and Echo Park communities, so it seems they are taking their shot at the Valley.  Raffi Shirinian is apparently known throughout communities as "the worm."

11580-11592 Riverside Dr. is in danger.

Three 1941 4-plex courtyard bungalows that had been long-term homes to 15 renters now sit on death row pending construction of 16 small lot single family “homes” - the projected sale price of which begins at $750,000.  The adjacent residential street, consisting almost entirely of single story 1930-40 era ranch style homes, is currently trafficked by baby strollers, kids on bikes, scooters, roller blades, dog walkers and joggers will soon be faced with the dangerous traffic created on this heretofore street to nowhere, as it will be used as a cut-through in order to circumvent the horrendous rush hours traffic on Riverside Drive that fronts the “homes”.   Additionally, the 16 “homes" have grossly inadequate resident and guest parking and will thereby turn the adjacent residential street into a parking lot.

16 3-story, 3-bedroom, 3-1/2 bathroom structures that replace 9 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom and 3 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom 1-story courtyard bungalows is considered an increase of “moderate” density according to Planning and Council.

Do the math.

The planners in charge of this case are Bob Duenas and Tom Henry. The same planners that have failed to provide any type of evidence as to their CEQA findings and have refused to supply the public with any documentation that would justify several projects in Valley Village as having 'no impact'.

11841 Riverside Drive / 4803 Carpenter Ave.

Illegally demolished Feb, 2016.

This 1936 Single-Family dwelling with pool was yet another example of the unique characteristics of the Valley.

11752 Huston St. was illegally demolished. (September 2015)

A 1910 Historically significant house was illegally demolished. An application to "REMODEL" resulted in demolition with no permit and no EPA/AQMD compliance.
This house was cited by SurveyLA as representing the earliest pattern of development in the area.  A rare, remaining example of an intact 1910's building possibly associated with early settlers.

12328 Hesby St. was demolished. (September 2015)

A 1939 Historically significant house was demolished.

June 2015 a permit was pulled for the demolition of the garage, resulting in demolition with no permit and no compliance.

A 1956 kitchen remodel, a new roof installed in 1991, this was an incredibly well maintained single-family dwelling and was part of the original development to the area.

In Chatsworth, there is a home in danger which is believed to be an original barn from the 1940's, if not older.   The council has already approved demolition (surprise), for the construction of townhomes on a site bordering the reservoir.

When our Council Office's choose the demolition of schools, one after the other....Something else, is wrong.

RIGHT NOW

Right now, saveValleyVillage and attorney Richard S. MacNaughton, Esq. are in litigation with the City of Los Angeles and developer Joe Salem, for claims having to do with the illegal demolition of Marilyn Monroe's house and City Council's Unlawful Voting Pact.   The most current amendment to the Complaint can be read here.

A very brief description of what took place June 15, 2015 can be read below.

On June 15, 2015 an illegal demolition took place for a property that was 3 days away from being heard in front of the Cultural-Heritage Commission with hopes of being designated as a Historical Monument.

No notice, no signs, no postings as required....Just a complete and utter surprise as peoples cars sat covered in powdery dust, which also made its way through people's windows.

sVV has been unable to think of a more disrespectful way of introducing yourself to the community.

A blatant disregard for the neighbors and for the laws resulted in putting the community in danger and compromising public safety.

All attempts at contacting the City Council member Paul Krekorian, the Neighborhood Council NCVV and LADBS resulted in no response; not one phone call or email was returned.

Many of us still wonder how that would have been handled if this was our Councilmember's block.

Attempts made to preserve this house began in 2014 initiated by the community.   All the way up to what led to its illegal demolition has uncovered some very scary realities regarding the current state of Valley Village as well as its future.  Realities that will make absolutely no sense to you because they are completely illogical and make no sense.  Realities you may not have ever considered to be possible involving your elected City Officials.   saveValleyVillage is here to tell you these things are absolutely happening and you will be the first to know about them should you choose to participate.
